Open Space Technology
Tom Thiss, facilitator

Theme for this session:
"How can we be more innovative in our strategic thinking
and execution for communities and rural development?"

Open Space Technology has international acclaim as an extraordinarily innovative approach to spirited performance and increased productivity. Groups operating in Open Space become self-managed work teams; leadership manifests where needed; and diversity becomes a positive resource and not an obstacle. Open Space introduces a radical new way of being in organization, appropriate and effective for our chaotic world. Training Magazine says, "Individuals who have participated in an Open Space conference often speak of being struck by two factors: the utter simplicity and the power." The greatest gift of Open Space is the collective sense of purpose, creativity, and ownership that emerge when we operate in open systems.

Tom Thiss has worked with Open Space for 15 years and has seen it grow from a curiosity to worldwide stature. He is president of Thiss Associates, a sales and management training firm in Excelsior, Minnesota. Tom has taught at the University of Minnesota, led a management development group in IBM, and worked in 39 countries including a consultancy in London from 1983-89. Tom now works with his son helping others to do what he has done for nearly forty years.
