For superior students to undertake doctoral and MFA level study in selected fields of theatre, humanities and social science

  • Student must demonstrate financial need
  • 20% of awards in Social Science
  • 20% in the Arts

NSEP (National Security Education Program)

To educate U.S. citizens about foreign cultures, strengthen U.S. economic competition, enhance international cooperation and security

  • Intended for study in locations outside the English speaking world and Western Europe
  • Up to $10,000 per semester
  • Requires federal service following completion of study abroad activity

    -Junior or senior, 1 year award or 1 term. To increase knowledge of other languages and cultures.
    -Freshman and sophomore-summer and 1 term for understanding international affairs

Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship

For outstanding students who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career with the U.S. Department of State

  • The fellowship award includes tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees during the junior and senior years of college and during the first year of graduate study with reimbursement for books and one round-trip travel.
  • The Fellow must commit to pursuing a graduate degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools identified by the WWNFF.
  • Participating graduate schools provide financial support in the second year of graduate study based on need.
  • Sophomore year of undergraduate studies at the time of application, or who will have received their bachelor's degree by June 2002 and will be enrolled for the 2002-03 academic year in the first year of a two year full-time masters degree program relevant to international affairs

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

To offer grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad.

  • High financial need
  • Interested in studying in diverse countries, especially those outside of Western Europe and Australia
  • Awards of up to $5,000
  • Receiving a Federal Pell Grant or proof that will receive a Pell grant at time of application and while abroad
  • Has benn accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit at home institution
  • Studying abroad for at least 4 weeks in one country
  • Studying abroad in any country except Cuba or a country on the State Department's current Travel Warning list
