National Student Exchange Checklist
Prior to Placement:
- Read the NSE Directory of Exchange Opportunities—available in the ACE office—for the year that you are applying to participate, and select at least five schools of interest to you.
- Research exchange options by doing the following:
- Review the NSE website;
- Read campus catalogs and other public relations materials. (Catalogs are available at ACE, Student Center, room 5);
- Study placement results from previous placement conference. The (document is included in application or see the Morris NSE contact;
- Attend a general information meeting.
- Consult with the NSE coordinator, to identify appropriate exchange options and procedures for exchange.
- Consult with your academic adviser to identify beneficial schools.
- Request references from three people, your adviser, another faculty or staff member, and one other person who will recommend you for exchange, as identified on the application form.
- Complete the NSE application form (available in the ACE office), budget worksheet, and statement of purpose, submit an official transcript, and pay application/placement fee no later than the deadline in mid-February in room 17, Student Center.
- If you have questions regarding your financial aid, consult the Financial Aid Office to ascertain your financial aid status during your period of exchange (under Plan B, you will apply for financial aid at Morris). Federal work study cannot be earned at the host campus and will not be awarded.
- Meet with the Morris NSE coordinator to review your application and to prioritize your choice of campuses for exchange.
- Schedule an interview with the NSE coordinator during the last two weeks of February. This 30-minute interview assesses your readiness for exchange and commitment to the exchange program, and allows an opportunity to discuss your placement preferences.
After Placement, usually in March:
- The NSE coordinator will notify you which school has accepted you for placement.
- Sign placement acceptance form to confirm to Morris and host coordinators that you accept placement. This must be accomplished before the established deadline. Failure to accept placement by the deadline date cancels your exchange to the host campus.
- Complete the host campus application for admission, if required, and on-campus housing.
- Obtain the following records to be forwarded to the host campus coordinator:
- Official transcript, if required
- Health record, if required
- Complete an Advising Agreement governing courses to be completed at host campus, discuss the courses with your adviser, and return it to room 17, Student Center. Both you and your adviser must sign the Advising Agreement before your exchange begins. Your adviser and the Office of the Registrar will determine how your courses will transfer to Morris.
- Complete Financial Aid forms, if necessary. If you are eligible for financial aid while on exchange, you must arrange for disbursement of aid through the University of Minnesota, Morris Business Office.
- Complete pre-registration materials as directed by host campus.
- Forward your summer mailing address to both Morris and host coordinator.
- Pay tuition and fees to the Morris Business Office, 205 Behmler Hall.
- Pay room and board and other required fees as directed to your host campus.
