The University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) Symphonic Winds present the fourth annual Festival of the Winds celebration on Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, 2009.
The Festival promises a myriad of exciting events for participants and listeners alike. The two-day event will include a conducting symposium, guest artists, master classes, and more. Guest ensembles from Minnewaska and Morris Area High Schools will collaborate with the Symphonic Winds to provide concerts each night at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts (HFA) Recital Hall on the UMM campus.
Guest conductor Dr. Larry Marks of the University of North Carolina, Charlotte will lead the Symphonic Winds and guest ensembles in each night’s concert. The program is to consist of several works from each ensemble, and both concerts will also feature a performance by guest artist Dr. Pat O’Keefe, clarinet, of St. Paul, MN. The concerts promise a variety of repertoire that is certain to appeal to a wide range of musical tastes.
The UMM Symphonic Winds are comprised of over eighty musicians, both music majors and non-majors, who join together to perform numerous concerts on campus during each academic year. While offering students opportunities to expand their technical, intellectual, and musical horizons, the UMM Symphonic Winds seek to broaden performance and teaching skills by cultivating an interest in the wind ensemble as an integral part of the American music scene. The ensemble is conducted by Dr. Martin H. Seggelke.
Tickets for the events will be sold at the door, with reserved tickets available for purchase in advance at the information desk in the UMM Student Center. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for children and senior citizens, and $1 for UMM students with ID. A reception of punch and cookies will follow the concerts at no additional cost.
