Sample Probation Letter
To: Students on Probation
From: Scholastic Committee
Subject: Academic Probation
Good standing at UMM requires students to maintain an overall GPA of 2.0. Your semester or cumulative GPA was less than 2.0 , which places you on probation. Being on probation means that a hold has been placed on your record. During fall registration, you will be allowed to register for a maximum of 14 credits and must meet with your adviser to discuss appropriate courses. If your adviser approves registering for more than 14 credits, the approval must be stated in the hold release. You can return to good standing by raising your term and cumulative GPA to 2.0.
During the first week of classes next semester, workshops have been scheduled that address academic issues and how to get help. As a condition of your probation, you must attend one of these workshops, which are designed to help you identify your areas of difficulty and to connect you with campus resources that will help you improve your grades and better manage the social, academic, and financial pressures you face as a college student. You will take a study skills inventory to help you determine your academic, social, and personal strengths and weaknesses. A UMM staff member will help you develop a plan for success.
All workshops will be held in Lib 360 on the dates/times below. To register, call Kathryn Gonier Klopfleisch at 589-6179 or e-mail her at gonierkr.
[Workshops are scheduled at various times during the first week of classes.]
If you cannot attend one of the workshops, contact Kathryn Gonier Klopfleisch at the Academic Assistance Office (589-6179) to set up an individual meeting.
If at the end of fall semester your term GPA or cumulative GPA is not 2.0 or higher, you will be suspended. If you do not attend one of the workshops and you are suspended at the end of fall semester, the Scholastic Committee will not accept an appeal and you will not be able to apply for readmission for one year.
