Bush IT Core Group Meeting

Location: Faculty Center, East Annex

PRESENT: Brady Alsaker, Pam Gades, Engin Sungur, Paul Myers, Pam Solvie, Roger Boleman, Karen Cusey and Katherine Benson.

COLLABORATION CONFERENCE

Sungur informed the committee of the Collaboration Conference call for proposals, due May 16. UMM could prepare proposals on:

  1. Using technology to promote deep learning
  2. Undergraduate research

The committee discussed the conference, November 16-17, 2007 at the Bloomington Sheraton Hotel in Bloomington. It was consensus of the committee to write a proposal, some suggestions include:

  1. Concept maps
  2. Wikki project
  3. Blog (variation of wikki)
  4. On-line course
  5. Discussion forum

Sungur said presentations are one hour each. Solvie suggested putting four different components into the proposal, allowing 15 minutes for each person to present

The proposal is due May 16; Sungur will draft the proposal and send to the committee members for approval.

FALL FACULTY RETREAT 2007

Members briefly discussed the Fall Faculty Retreat. Sungur said we would like to include a session on technology (similar to last year’s retreat). Boleman, Cusey, and Gades agreed to present a session on Technology at the retreat; title is forthcoming. Sungur said the FFR planning committee meets next week.

CONSULTING GROUP

Members discussed membership of the Consulting Group; several names suggested including Kristen Lamberty, Michelle Page, Seung-Ho Joo, and Jess Larson. Solvie said she would talk with Page; Sungur will contact Lamberty, Joo, and Larson.

Faculty Stipend

The committee discussed Faculty stipend for the Bush IT Core Group and Consulting Committee. The committee agreed to increase the faculty and staff stipend $200, as each also serve as a member of the Consulting Group during the summer.

Members discussed the Consulting Group Stipend, and agreed to decrease the stipend from $1500 to $1000 for two consultants, but will keep $1500 (designated for third consultant) in reserve to hire additional consultants, outside consultant or additional funds if project/projects require extra work. Sungur said funding is available for four students; three students are hired. A student for research/writing is needed for the Consulting Group; Benson will look for someone who can do research and writing. Alsaker said Molly Kloek is looking for work; he will talk with her about joining the Consulting Group.

Members discussed the pay schedule, and agreed there must be accountability for the projects. The committee decided to split equally the project stipends, first payment in May, the second in July, with the stipulation that the project participant can request postponement of the second payment if their project as not progressed as anticipated. The Consulting Group will inform the project participants of the expectations at the May 14 Projects meeting; and let them know they can postpone the second payment if they cannot make enough progress on their project.

Consulting Group Meeting

The first meeting will be Tuesday, May 8, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM at the Faculty Center. Pederson will distribute copies of the eight detailed projects at the meeting for review; consultants assigned to projects accordingly.

Projects Meeting

The Consulting Group will meet will project participants on May 14, 12:00 – 2:00 PM, location yet to be determined. Focus on the meeting will include:

  • Inform project participants of expectations
  • Work with participants during the summer, how the project focuses on content delivery, how it works, and if it worked (assessment).
  • Learning Style Workshop (date announced at meeting)
