Social Science Major
Can't decide which you love best... anthropology, psychology, sociology, or history? Social Science may be the major for
you!
Coursework
Students who major in Social Science select courses from a broad range of disciplines including
anthropology, sociology, psychology, management, economics, history, political science, and
statistics. The various sub-plans include opportunities to study abroad, participate in service learning, or conduct research

Objectives
Students who major in Social Science will understand how each social science discipline structures and advances
knowledge, raises and answers analytical questions, and deals with competing theories and the changing nature of the
field. Students develop an area of focus in a single discipline or an interdisciplinary social science area within the
major. Students work closely with their advisers to plan a program that satisfies the required competencies in a chosen
area of focus and in the social science disciplines. |

Careers
Most students completing a Social Science major do so as part of the licensure requirements for Secondary Education. However, liberal
arts graduates, such as those with the interdisciplinary background offered with a Social Science major, find employment
that makes use of their skills, special knowledge, values, and interests in a wide variety of careers. Recent graduates
include an attorney, education administrator, high school dean of students, public relations fundraiser, secondary school
principal, volunteer program director, librarian, and technical writer. |
