Evaluation-Financial Aid

Approximately 1,946 students (of an unduplicated enrollment number of 2,165), 90% of the student body were recipients of one or more forms of financial assistance through the University of Minnesota, Morris during the 2002-2003 fiscal year.  The forms of aid included student employment, loan assistance, and grant and scholarship aid.

The average amount of financial aid assistance provided per student recipient from UMM during the 2002-2003 fiscal year was $8,052.  This includes both need-based and non-need based financial aid.

Some of the achievements of the financial aid staff for this past year include:

As part of the U of M system, UMM continues to implement and upgrade our web-based tools for students to manage their financial aid information.  Our financial aid pages on the UMM web site have been completely redesigned with significantly more information provided to current and prospective students.

Most of the communication regarding information needed and notices of financial aid awards to students were managed electronically.

Standard financial aid forms continue to be available on our web site for families to download and print at their convenience.

Major changes recommended/plans for 2003-2004

Staff will undergo the opportunity to write a full policy manual.  We will also write a comprehensive procedure manual to cover the steps needed to complete the work we do.  This will be a significant undertaking and will require a great deal of time.

Our communication pieces to students will be scrutinized and rewritten as needed.

Details about the types of financial aid received by UMM students during the 2002-2003 fiscal year (summer of 2003 and the 2002-2003 academic year) appear below.
