Welcome to the Studio Art Discipline

 
Welcome to the home page of the Studio Art discipline at the University of Minnesota, Morris. With six faculty and approximatley 75 studio art majors. We are proud of the depth and excellance of our program and course offerings, which range from basic drawing classes to digital imaging and media study courses.

Additionally, the discipline routinly offers courses and special topics in digital imaging, tilemaking, public art and book making. Students also have opportunities to participate in study abroad programs, faculty research, service learning, and exhibitions opportunities with in the HFA Gallery and existing public art space on campus.

Spring 2008

Work by both art and non-art majors will be on view during the 2008 Juried Student Art Exhibition in the Gallery of Humanities Fine Arts at the University of Minnesota, Morris. For the third consecutive year an impartial, professional juried the art submitted for the annual student exhibition. This years juror is Professor Tim Cleary, a UMM alum. Currently, Professor Cleary is an Assistant Professor and chair of the Visual Arts Department at the University of Wisconsin – Superior. On the 2008 Juried Student Exhibition.

Professor Cleary selected 36 out of the 89 pieces entered into the exhibition, making this student show one of the most competitive in recent years.

The University of Minnesota-Morris proudly presents the 2008 senior art exhibition, which features works of eighteen graduating seniors from the studio art program. All are invited to attend the opening reception for the exhibit on Thursday, April 24 in the HFA gallery beginning at 7:00 p.m. and running until 9:00 p.m. During the opening, refreshments will be served and recognition will be given to the graduating seniors.

Works in ceramics, sculpture, digital imaging, drawing, painting, photography, and printmaking created via each student's medium of choice will be represented in the exhibit.

The senior exhibit will run in the HFA gallery from April 24 to May 17. HFA Gallery hours are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday; 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday.

The Humanities Fine Arts Gallery of the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) will present an exhibition of work of studio art alumni from Saturday, October 4 until Wednesday, November 26, 2008, to celebrate and honor those who have continued creative work in the visual arts. The exhibit is sponsored by the Division of the Humanities, the Studio Art discipline, and the UMM Alumni Association. Entries will be due June 1st (this is a extended deadline)
