Digital Imaging

Studio Art offers classes in Digital Imaging, in conjunction with the Digital Media Lab managed by Media Services in the Humanities Fine Arts Building. Courses will explore the possibilities of using the computer as a component of art-making in the Studio Art Discipline. Students will learn the basics to operate software programs and become more familiar with other aspects of digital media that artists are coming to rely on: obtaining and manipulating images, documenting artwork, and creating gallery-ready imagery. Projects will also encourage the integration of digital work with other mediums like artist’s books, drawing, photography, performance, and mixed media. The classes will also begin a dialogue about the issues facing artists and the artworld as digitally assisted work is becoming more of a presence in the studio, the gallery, and the museum through readings and discussions. These courses will introduce to the student the technical, conceptual, aesthetic and ethical aspects of using the computer to make art.
