Welcome to the Studio Art Discipline

 
Welcome to the home page of the Studio Art discipline at the University of Minnesota, Morris. With six faculty and approximatley 75 studio art majors. We are proud of the depth and excellance of our program and course offerings, which range from basic drawing classes to digital imaging and media study courses.

Additionally, the discipline routinly offers courses and special topics in digital imaging, tilemaking, public art and book making. Students also have opportunities to participate in study abroad programs, faculty research, service learning, and exhibitions opportunities with in the HFA Gallery and existing public art space on campus.

Fall 2009

The Hfa Gallery presents the Project Art for Nature (PAN) exhbition from 0ctober 22 - November 27, 2009. PAN is a collaboration of Minnesota and Wisconsion artists and Illustrators who create artwork that promotes awareness, understanding, and stewardship of threatened regional natural areas. Each artist chooses one or two sites to regularly visit and then creates artwork focused on, inspired by, or illustrating aspects of their chosen area(s). Artist included in the exhibit: Mary Coughlin, Marj Davis, Estella Lerma, Denise Friesen, Mark Granlund, Barbara Harman, David Morrison, Bonnie Ploger, Teri Power, Diane Wesman, and Vera Wong.

2008 & 2009 McKnight Artists Touring Exhbition at the HFA Gallery.
This annual exhbition of work by McKnight fellowship and residency artists will include new work by 4 recent McKnight Ceramic Artist Fellowship recipients along with 8 Mcknight Resident Artists. sponsored by The McKnight Foundation, Minneapolis, Minnesota, reflects the Foundation's interest in supporting outstanding individual ceramic artists who have already proven their abilities and are at a career stage that is beyond emerging. Two ceramic fellowship grants and four residency grants are awarded annually. The fellowship awards support Minnesota ceramic artists and can be used for a variety of purposes. In addition to the cash stipend, the residency grants provide non-Minnesota ceramic artists with three-month residencies at the Clay Center. Click on the image to see work from the exhibit
