Printmaking

The print curriculum provides instruction on a broad variety of techniques for creating reproducible imagery.  Beginning Printmaking students gain experience in intaglio processes as well as relief during the fall semester.  This includes drypoint, etching, linocut and woodcut.  Spring semester is devoted to the techniques of plate lithography, waterless lithography and monotype.  Advanced Printmaking builds on these basic processes by including more complicated color work in both intaglio and lithography, large format relief, stone lithography and water based screen printing.  Advanced students are encouraged to explore multiple process work, digital applications as well as unique monoprints.

Printmaking can be selected to fulfill either your major or minor media requirement in the major.  Media Studies in Printmaking can be used in place of Advanced Printmaking coursework.

Students have access to all the necessary printing equipment including 3 etching presses, 1 lithography press, over a dozen screen printing units, printing inks and drying racks.  In addition the studio maintains lithography stones, as well as woodcut and etching tools for students to check out as needed.  Students enrolled in printmaking also receive ample storage space to house their paper and matrixes during the course.

The prints appearing on this webpage were completed in ArtS 2201/2 and ArtS 3200, Beginning and Advanced Printmaking.  Featured artwork was created by.
