Information provided in this section has been selected primarily because it relates to enrollment and retention. The summary sheet entitled "Student Body Information" provides a brief profile of each successive freshman class as well as certain demographic information regarding the student body as a whole. The map of Minnesota shows the distribution of Minnesota students within the student body. Changes in high school ranks and ACT scores between 1996 and 2000 are shown. Information on the years of high school preparation in foreign language, mathematics, and science for new freshmen is also shown.
The five-year summaries of headcount, FYE enrollment, and minority student enrollment show not only data for UMM but for the University system as a whole and are the official figures provided by the central administration. Fall term headcount enrollment uses the standard definition: students registered for one or more credits at the end of the second week of the fall term. Full-year equivalent (FYE) enrollments are determined by dividing the total student credit hours by the full-time credit enrollment for one year and are compiled at the end of the academic year. It should be noted that credit and non-credit enrollments for Continuing Education and Summer Session classes are not included. The charts related to enrollment show fall term headcounts at UMM since it opened in 1960 and the close relationship between headcount and FYE enrollment. Data showing the numbers of students from other states is based on the high schools from which they graduated.
A locally developed enrollment projection is shown for 2001 through 2004. It is based on the current enrollment management model being used at UMM which depends primarily on target numbers of entering freshmen and recent retention patterns. A chart shows cohort retention and graduation rates for UMM freshmen who remained at UMM and, in addition, those who transferred to any other college within the University of Minnesota system.
Data on postbaccalaureate training and entry-level occupations of the graduates is reported from a 1999 follow-up study of all graduating classes from 1964 through 1998. Graduates of the 1990's were followed up only one year after graduation.
The tables provided show only a small amount of the profile, enrollment, demographic, aptitude, student demand, grade, and follow-up information available on the UMM student body. In many instances, considerable data is available with University-wide, state, and national comparisons as well.
