Spring 2007 Agenda and Notes

NOTES: UMM faculty, Gwen Rudney and Michelle Page, came and talked about the Education program here on campus.  We are very thankful that they were able to come and we learned a lot of helpful information. Link to Martin Luther King activity.  

NOTES: A representative came from the Black Student Union, Nate Giles, came to talk about ways that we can incorporate Black history into the classroom throughout the school year.  Our guest was able to answer some questions we had.  We really appreciated him coming! We also talked about a Valentines Day activity that you could use in your future classroom. Link to Valentine's Day activity.

NOTES: Morris Area High School Spanish teacher, Windy Roberts, and Hancock English teacher, Susan Hauger, came and talked about their experiences as teachers and answered questions we had.  This was very informative and gave us a clearer view of what being a teacher is going to be like.

NOTES: We went over some fun classroom activities that can be integrated into lessons.  Book marks and door knob hangers were examples of art activities to use in future classroom lessons. Link to classroom activities.

NOTES: For back to school night, we had a fun time playing with play dough, finger painting, and eating fruit snacks and drinking juice boxes.  This was a fun way to get to know each other better and learn ways to make learning fun. 

NOTES: Since teacher appreciation day/week is coming up, we decided to make appreciation cards for the teachers in Morris Elementary just to thank them and let them know that they are appreciated.  We also made cards for the Education professors here on campus.  We really want to let all teachers know that what they do is so important.

NOTES: Principal of the Morris Elementary, Brad Korn, came to speak at our meeting.  He came and told us what he looks for when hiring a teacher, what the application and interview process is like and much more interesting information that can help anyone interview for a job.  We all learned a lot more of what it will be like once we are applying for teaching positions one day and better prepared us for it.  We are very thankful that Mr. Korn was able to come and speak to us.  Here is a link to his contact information if you have any more questions:  http://www.morris.k12.mn.us/eleschool.htm

NOTES: This was our last meeting of the semester and we ended with an ice cream social.  We had ice cream with different toppings and gave out prizes for good attendance.  While eating our ice cream, we talked about some ideas that everybody had for next year with EMSP.  There were a lot of good suggestions given!
