This committee is a sub-committee of Curriculum. The committee learns about the teacher education program at UMM and preparation of teacher sin MN and elsewhere. Members of the committee inform their Division faculty of any major changes or initiatives in teacher education.
This committee assists the Division of Education in meeting an NCATE/BOT requirement that our teacher education programs be connected to the liberal arts.
A yearly report is made to the Curriculum Committee with summary of past year discussions and actions. A recommendation regarding the continuance of the committee is also provided.

Teacher Education Dispositions
Judy explained that UMM Teacher Education developed a form, Teacher Candidate Dispositions, Standards of Effective Practice are included and they are state standards adopted by the National standards and the conceptual framework describes our program for NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education).
UMM Teacher Education recommends students to the state and ultimately the state decides if a student receives a license.
Suggestions: form could be less subjective, obtain evaluations from different people, form should be used after they get into the program, incorporate assessment into one of these categories, this is in line with The Big 5 Personality Traits
Student Athletes and Teacher Education
Discussed UMM teaching schedule and practice times and compared them from Division II to Division III.
The fall season is very heavy with the Beginning Student Teaching practicum and also other field experiences.
For the most part the students are very responsible and have communicated with the instructors and coaches.
