English Information

While many graduates go on to pursue graduate studies or to teach English in elementary or secondary schools, the BA in English prepares students for a variety of other careers, such as editing and publishing, journalism, technical writing, public relations, advertising, business, law, and information technology.

The Department participates in a lecture series and a reading series in poetry and fiction, both of which bring distinguished speakers to campus. Recent speakers, for example, have included Trinh T. Minh-ha, Anthony Dawson (then-President of the Shakespeare Association of America), Lawrence Buell on "Evironmental Imagination, Environmental Crises," and, most recently, Wang Ping, a well-known poet.
