GIS and Remote Sensing

Welcome to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing at UMM! This website was developed to accompany Geol 2161: GIS and Remote Sensing, and the syllabus and schedule information all refer to the most recent offering of this class (S08). The faculty member who developed the course and this webpage is no longer at UMM, so this page is currently used as a repository for class materials and GIS resources.

If you are interested in learning about spatial data and GIS, the lab exercises from the class are still available on the Lab page. Each exercise should be self-explanatory and can be completed using data that are still available for download (see the individual lab exercises for more information). The only requirement is that you have access to ESRI ArcGIS software (v. 9.x) and, for some labs, the spatial analyst extension. This software is available in all of the computing services labs on the UMM campus and on select computers in the Science building. For more information on software access, contact Peter Wyckoff in the Biology Discipline.
