July in Paris Academics

Place de la Sorbonne

Students study at La Sorbonne (above), founded in 1215 by Robert de Sorbonne. All students, whether they’ve had no French whatsoever or are quite advanced in their expression, enroll in the Cours de civilisation française and will take a course taught by a French professor with students from all over the world. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a Certificat de langue française. Courses taken in Paris do not automatically fulfill the foreign language requirement at UMM; upon return to the U.S., students may opt to take a Placement Exam to reassess their proficiency.

The July in Paris group will go on many excursions together. These excursions will cover several aspects of French culture, including art, architecture, painting, music, and history. The UMM faculty leader accompanies students on all cultural visits, including guided tours of the Louvre, the Orsay Museum, the Rodin Museum, the Pompidou Center, Chartres, Mont St. Michel, St. Malo, the Normandy Beaches, and Versailles.
