FREN 3028 - Early Modern Studies: Female Authorship and Medieval Canon Fodder (HUM)

The ways in which Medieval and Early-Modern women appropriated the male domain of literature to create and authorize their own writing acts. Examination of the works of the Contessa de Dia, of Christine de Pisan, Pernette du Guillet, Louise Lab¿, Marguerite de Navarre, and Madame de Lafayette, among others. Meets Early Modern Studies (EMS) requirement in French major.
FREN 4011 - Advanced Language Studies: Thème et Version (HUM)

The art of translation applied to everyday discourse, literary texts, and a number of professional fields: journalism, international business, and political, social, and natural sciences with a particular emphasis on specialized vocabularies and advanced grammar and syntax. Preparation for a bilingual workplace and / or a career in French interpretation / translation.
Note: Fren 2011: French Phonetics will not be offered in spring 2010 due to a need for a second section of Fren 1002.

24th Annual Edith R Farrell Poetry Reading Contest | Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Oyate Hall
We will gather for our most important tradition. Students compete at their level of proficiency for a variety of prizes, carefully preparing a French or Francophone poem for recitation. Last year, some sixty students gathered for an evening of food, live original music (in French), and poetry. We will also be inducting at least one new member into Pi Delta Phi, The French National Honor Society. In Oyate Hall beginning at 7:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public--please join us!
