Proterozoic quartzites of Colorado

In the summer of 2008, undergraduate geology students Allison Ameluxen and Donnie Hicks (accompanied by field assistants Erik Baker and Scott Shaffer) spent two weeks with UMM geology faculty member Jamey Jones doing field research in various parts of Colorado. Donnie's research is focused on the contact relationships and deformation history of ca. 1.7 billion year old quartzite exposed along Phantom Canyon in southern Colorado. Allison's research is focused on the contact relationships and depositional and deformation history of ca. 1.7 billion year old quartzite exposed in the front range near Boulder, Colorado, and in the Park Range of northern Colorado. Both students were funded by the University of Minnesota Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).
