Welcome to the Humanities Discipline!
Pop Quiz! The term "Humanities" refers to:
A. Those academic disciplines concerned with art and culture, such as French, Art History, German, Speech Communication, English, Philosophy,
Dance, Spanish, Theatre, or Studio Art, which study
the human condition using methods that are largely analytic, critical, or speculative. There's a reason the Minnesota Humanities Center has
"think" in its URL!
B. An
administrative office at UMM that oversees the activities of faculty
and students teaching or studying the disciplines mentioned above.
C. A collection of courses for folks who just can't get enough of the Humanities... or want to take a course in French cinema without having to know or major
in French!
D. All of the above.
At UMM, we've put together a group of courses known as the Humanities
Discipline, providing students with an opportunity to explore these
thought-provoking areas no matter what their major. Love movies? Maybe you'd like to study German, French, Italian or Hispanic cinema in a class taught in English. Want to
explore the literature of Russia, India, or the Orient? Wondering where you can find a course in Norse mythology, the history of Morocco, the American West, or the King James Bible?
The Humanities Discipline
is the answer!
The answer to the pop quiz is D, "All of the above."
