Homework
- Due Tuesday 2/5: (i) state in a valid form arguments 4, 7-9 from handout distributed in class;
and (ii) choose one of these arguments (or Russell's in Pieranna's Lecture Notes) and provide also
an explanation and an evalutation of the argument on the model of the last page of Professor Lemke's handout
or of Pieranna's example in the Lecture Notes.
- Due Thursday 2/14: State as a valid argument Craig’s argument for the claim that
“the world must have had a beginning,” i.e., for the first step of his version
of the Kalam argument; this argument is contained fully in the second half
of the first full paragraph on p. 61.
- Due Thursday 3/6: State the inductive argument in the paragraph beginning at the end of p. 128
and ending on the top of p. 129. It is best understood as an analogy between two types of inferences to the
best explanation.
- Due Thursday 4/17: State the argument from analogy between legal and moral obligation that is contained
in the first four lines of the first paragraph of the section 6.3 Divine Obligation on p. 244.
- Today, Sunday May 11, the study session in preparation for tomorrow's final is at 4:00 p.m.
