Philosophy 4002: Existentialism

Perhaps one of the defining qualities of the existentialist movement is that it is filled with unique individuals who have emphasized the primacy of the human lived experience. In light of this, we will read four very interesting and in many ways ground breaking philsoosophers who have in different ways triumphed aspects of human experience: Soren Kierkegaard, Friedrich Nietzsche, Martin Heidegger, and Jean-Paul Sartre. We will also read a selection of variety of short novels and view a list of films which illustrate existentialist themes.
