Welcome to the Political Science Discipline!
The presidency, military development, local politics, legislation, world
affairs... it's all here in the political science discipline, where
students learn how those in power operate, make policy, and manage
conflict.
Students majoring in political science may specialize
in American
politics,
international relations, or political theory.
The discipline's faculty includes award-winning educators, campus
leaders, and innovative users of educational technology.
Meet the faculty. |

Tales out of school
|
Sara Kloek and Johanna Farmer took
first place in a "UMM on Spring Break" photo contest with
this snapshot from an Arabian Desert Extravaganza. The students were attending the
First Annual Women as Global Leaders Conference in Dubai, United
Arab Emirates. "One of the highlights of the trip," Kloek reported, "was hearing Gro
Harlem Bruntland, former prime minister of Norway, speak about
the importance of getting women involved in politics. The conference helped me to
formulate answers to the 'big questions' we used to discuss in my
Women and Politics course."

UMM is a green
campus, recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency for its
advancements of sustainable, environmentally friendly initiatives. Much of the
credit goes to student activists including members of MPIRG (Minnesota Public
Interest Research Group), student government, and residence hall organizations.
Their efforts led to the formation of a Green Energy Task Force to review and
monitor campus operations with a goal of moving toward a more resource-conscious
approach to energy and resource conservation. The task force consisted of a
cross section of the campus community with an emphasis on student involvement.
