Art Studio 2500: Advanced Photography, SLR

Partners: Land Stewardship Project, Pride of the Prairie, Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance
Project: Students will photograph local farmers on their farms. Photos will be available to farmers for use in promotional pieces and will be made into products available for sale through the PRCA.
Eng 1001, Fundamentals of Writing, SLR

Project: For one class assignment, students will interview a local farmer about his or her work in the local foods movement and write a profile about the farmer. The profiles will be provided to the farmers for use in their own promotions and will be part of a traveling photography and writing exhibit designed to educate citizens about the economic, environmental, and health benefits of purchasing locally produced foods.

Project: Students will plan and implement weekly activities for elders living in a long-tem care facility and write a series of reflective and analytic essays about the experience.
Eng 2993: Directed Study: Found Poetry and Service Learning, SLR
Instructor: Argie Manolis
Project: Students will facilitate groups of first-year students, assisting in planning and implementing weekly activities for elders at a long-term care facility. They will write found poems from the elders' words and create books of poetry and reflections for each elder and family.
IS 2993:History and Culture of New Orleans
Instructor: Argie Manolis
Students assisted with clean up efforts in New Orleans through a faith-based organization, then spent a semestesr reading, discussing, and writing about the effects of Hurricane Katrina on the history and culture of New Orleans.
MUS 3204: Advanced Individual Performance Study: Voice

Partners: Morris Area High School
Project: UMM students will provide private voice lessons to high school students. The high school students will give a performance at the end of the semester.
Pol 1201: American Government and Politics, SLR

Project: Students will be involved in community-based research about housing and homelessness in West Central Minnesota.
Psy 3403: Adulthood, Aging, and Death, SLR

Partners:Morris Senior Center, Hancock Senior Citizens Group
Project:Students and elders meet for five intergenerational dialogues on topics chosen collectively. At the end of the semester, they work together on planning the Morris Senior Center Bazaar.
Soc 3141: Sociology of Deviance, SLO
Instructor: Jennifer Rothchild
Partners: Someplace Safe
Project: Students may choose (in lieu of a more traditional series of papers) to assist with event planning and outreach materials for Someplace Safe, an agency that educates about and advocate for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault, to work on outreach/information gathering for the Violence Prevention Program on campus, or to assist a local non-profit working on important social issues.
Soc 3121: Sociology of Gender, SLR

Project: Students investigate and respond to a local social issue related to gender in collaboration with community members not in the class.
