Spanish Discipline
¡Bienvenidos a todos!
Welcome to the Spanish Discipline at UMM!
Spanish is the fourth most spoken language today, and the U.S. is one of the four largest Spanish-speaking countries in the world. The UMM Spanish Discipline promotes a global perspective by encouraging students to take a close look at another culture and in this way become aware of both the diversity and similarity among all people. Our courses in language and literature help students become successful global citizens as they develop critical insight into the philosophy and values of another culture, fluency in a second language, and sensitivity toward literature, culture and history that reflects the diverse experiences of the Spanish-speaking world. Our faculty members have been recognized for their quality teaching and research and have lived, traveled, and taught in diverse areas of the Spanish-speaking world. We are committed to undergraduate teaching and research and to helping students discover the joys and benefits of study and travel abroad.
The Spanish curriculum presents numerous options for students.
- A major
- A minor
- Combination with other affiliated fields of study, such as Latin American Area Studies (LAAS), Global Business or European Studies.
