Welcome

Statistics Discipline at University of Minnesota-Morris, offers programs leading to a B.S., Major, and minor in Statistics.  Our discipline offers many courses in Statistical Methods and Probability at the undergraduate level.  Most of the courses include the use of computers and computer software to perform the statistical analysis of data.  The software includes MS EXCEL, MINITAB, WebStat, SAS, S-Plus, and R.  We are a growing discipline in the growing field of Statistics.  There are many job opportunities locally for Statisticians in many diverse areas of application, such as Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Medical Statistics, the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Finance, Banking, Government, Education, Consulting, and many others.  We encourage you to consider the field of Statistics as an undergraduate major (or as a second major, especially if you are already a Math major).

  • Congratulations to our own Dr. Jon Anderson who was recently named a winner of the 2002-2003 Morse Alumni Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Teaching.

Good News

  • Steve Formaneck completed his Mathematics master's degree at U of Waterloo, Dec. 2003.
  • Our 2003 graduate (David Borgerding) found a staistics job in Wisconsin.
  • Daniel Conroy fininshed a summer internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
  • Josephine Myers-Kuykindall had 2003 AEA Summer Program from University of Colorado at Denver.
  • Paul Buzihec entered a Statistics graduate program in Iowa State University in the fall semester, 2003.
  • Saveth Ho entered a Statistics graduate program in University of Minnesota at Twin Cities in the fall semester, 2003.
  • Mat Soukup will finish his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Virginia this May, 2004 and will start his job at the United Network for Organ Sharing.
  • Josephine Myers-Kuykindall was selected as a participant in the Summer Program (Start June 7, 2004 and end July 2, 2004) in Quantitative Sciences in the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH).
  • Marit Gilkey and Daniel Conroy will start a Statistics graduate program in University of Minnesota at Twin Cities in the fall semester, 2004.
  • Ricky Jansen will start Environmental Health Science graduate program in School of Public Health, University of Minnesota at Twin Cities in the fall semester, 2004.
  • Cassandra Yant  will start her job from Target Headquarters in Minnespolis, MN, June 2th, 2005. Her job title is Supply Chain Executive
  • Josh Mattson have started his job as an Inventory Data Specialist at The Musicland Group corporate headquarters in Minnetonka, April 2005.
  • Dave Borgerding will start a new job with Federated Insurance down in Owatonna, MN. He will start his job in the beginning of July, 2005
  • Paul Buzihec has finished his Masters degree from Department of Statistics in Iowa State University, 2005 and then has found  his job as Research Analyst at Ingenix, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.
  • Ivan Ramler completed his Statistics Master's degree at Iowa State University in 2004 and is currently in the Ph.D program at Iowa State University.
  • Laura A. Hildreth will start Applied Economics graduate program (with TA financial support) in University of Minnesota at Twin Cities in the fall semester, 2006.
  • Matthew D. Zachman will start Statistics Ph. D. program (with TA financial support) in University of Minnesota at Twin Cities in the fall semester, 2006.
  • Shaun Maloney (UMM, Class of 2002) is working at Mayo Clinic as a Statistical Programmer Analyst.
  • Clinton E. Hagen started Biostatistics graduate program (with RA financial support) in University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center  in the fall semester, 2006.
  • Amy Johnson will start Biostatistics graduate program (with TA / RA financial support) in University of Iowa in the fall semester, 2007.
  • Matthew Brian will start Biostatistics Ph. D. program (with TA / RA financial support) in University of Washington in the fall semester, 2007.
  • Josh Warner will start Statistics graduate program in University of Nebraska in the fall semester, 2007.
  • David Holler has taken his teaching job at Wayzata High School in special education and He is currently attending Adler Graduate School to get a MA in School Counseling.
  • Andrew Wey got an admission from Biostatistics Ph. D. program (with TA / RA financial support) at University of Washington in the fall semester, 2009.
  • Clinton E. Hagen started a new position at W. L. Gore & Associates in Flagstaff, Arizona supporting medical device clinical trials (Feb., 2009).
  • Steve Formaneck finished up his Ph.D. degree at the University of Waterloo in Management Sciences, am currently in Seoul, Korea at Konkuk University as a visiting faculty member in the School of Business, and in September he starts a tenure-track position at The American University in Cairo (Egypt) in the Department of Management. (03/05/2009)
  • Andrew We got an admission from Biostatistics Masters program (with financial support) at University of Minnesota in the fall semester, 2009.
  • Rui Ding got an admission from Mathematical Finance Masters program at Boston University in the fall semester, 2009.
  • Rui Ding will join Master’s program at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Financial Engineering in the fall semester, 2009.
  • Karsten Maurer will join Ph.D program (with financial support) at Iowa State University, Statistics in the fall semester, 2009.
  • Nocole Dobmeier will join Master’s program (with financial support) at Ohio State University, Statistics in the fall semester, 2009.
  • Ivan Ramler completed his Statistics Doctoral degree at Iowa State University in 2008 and is currently Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Statistics at St. Lawrence University .
  • Matt Rousseau has finished his MS in Biostatistics at U of Minnesota and has also accepted a position at Boston Scientific in Arden Hills, MN as a Biostatistician.
