Productions are generally selected according to their suitability for theatre students and audiences. The selection process involves consideration of what types of plays and productions have been presented within a four to five year block of time with a view to providing a range of offerings from various nations and periods in theatre history. Theatre majors and minors are invited to participate in the selection process with the faculty each spring quarter. Each academic year three to five major productions are mounted in the Proscenium and Black Box Theatres. The number depends upon faculty availability, scheduling, and budgetary considerations.
Each year in April, one major production is designated as a children's theatre presentation and children from area elementary schools within about a fifty mile radius are bussed to the campus to attend one of the four to six performances of this production.
AUDITIONS
Auditions for all productions are open to any UMM student regardless of enrollment in theatre classes. Students can receive one academic credit (Theatre 1070) for participation in these productions.
