Concert Choir tours west coast during spring break with final performance in Morris
The University of Minnesota, Morris Concert Choir, under the direction of Kenneth Hodgson, associate professor of music, will perform in cities throughout the West Coast during the 2010 Spring Tour beginning on March 13, 2010. The tour culminates with a home concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010, in Recital Hall in Humanities Fine Arts on the Morris campus. The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will donation will be accepted.
The 2010 West Coast Concert Tour repertoire includes “Sing Ye Merrily” by Arnold; “Sicut Cervus” a Gregorian chant by Palestrina; “Abendlied” by Ed Rene Clausen; a mass “Jesus, Priceless Treasure” by J.S. Bach; a Finnish folk song “Lost in the Night” arr. by F.M. Christiansen; “Benedictus” by Emil Paladihe; “Lift Up Your Heads” arranged by Olaf Christiansen; “Lullaby” by Hodgson; a Brazilian Psalm “Alleluia” by Jean Berger; and “All that Hath Life & Breath Praise Ye the Lord” by Rene Clausen.
The second half opens with a beautiful Spanish love song “Amor De Mi Alma” by Z. Randall Stroope; a contemporary love song “A Boy and a Girl” by Eric Whitacre; a poem by E.E. Cummings; “I Carry Your Heart with Me” by David Dickau; two spiritual pieces “Hush! Somebody’s Callin’ My Name” arr. by Brazeal Dennard and “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel” arranged by Moses Hogan. The concert concludes with various spirituals and folk songs, capped by the choir’s haunting Hebrew farewell, “Shalom Chaverim,” arranged by Hodgson.

- March 19, St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Beaverton, Oregon, 7 p.m.;
- March 20, Oak Harbor Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, Washington, 7 p.m.;
- March 21, Edmonds United Methodist Church, Edmonds, Washington, 6 p.m.;
- March 25, Recital Hall, Morris, 7:30 p.m.
The Morris Concert Choir is well known for its professionalism and enthusiasm in performance. Under Hodgson’s direction, the choir has toured and performed throughout the Midwest, central Canada, on the East and West Coasts, and Europe. In May 2011, the choir will travel to the Scandinavian countries.
