Students at the University of Minnesota, Morris will one day be a part of the history of communities throughout the west central region of Minnesota thanks to partnerships facilitated by the campus Center for Small Towns (CST). In any given year, around 70 students will get hands-on experience related to their field of study while performing jobs that integrate them into local communities and create the possibility of a stronger future.
Blair Jasper, an English and history double major who worked with the Community Outreach Partnership Center to provide economic development and community revitalization, summarized his CST-facilitated experience this way: "It’s a real campus-community cooperation and a great way to apply the skills we learn in the classroom." While attending Morris, Jasper was also part of another process of historical significance confronting many small towns-the disposition of antiquated but treasured old school buildings.
