The Chamber Orchestra is the primary performance ensemble available to string players on the Morris campus. Under the direction of Alexander Corbett, the orchestra rehearses twice per week and performs 4–5 concerts throughout the academic year. Players receive a diverse performing experience through collaborations with other UMM ensembles, faculty soloists, and guest soloists. In addition, the ensemble regularly hosts a variety of nationally-renowned guest artists who work with players in master classes and rehearsals. The Chamber Orchestra’s recent travels have included trips to present concerts and attend professional performances. Members of the ensemble also make up smaller chamber groups that perform regularly.
An audition consisting of a solo piece and sight reading is required for admittance. Membership is open to both Music and non-Music majors. Email Alexander Corbett for more information.
