Welcome to the University of Minnesota Morris Symphonic Winds!
The UMM Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Simon Tillier, represents the premier large instrumental ensemble at Morris. It is comprised of music majors and non-majors who perform up to six concerts during each academic year. The ensemble is dedicated to presenting an exciting variety of challenging works from all musical periods, cultures and styles, featuring both core and contemporary repertoire, and new pieces by emerging composers. The group has toured nationally and internationally to such destinations as Europe, South America, Hawaii and the Bahamas. An annual highlight is the UMM Wind Festival held during November, when high school musicians from across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin attend a weekend of rehearsals and performances with UMM staff and internationally renowned guest artists. Many graduates of the Symphonic Winds hold teaching positions in Minnesota and other U.S. States as well as leading positions in their respective major areas of study
Membership in the Symphonic Winds is open to all Morris students, faculty and staff as well as interested members of the community, and will be determined via audition during the week before fall semester classes start. For the spring semester, auditions will be offered as needed during the first week of classes. For more information, please click Join Us!
