Cougar swimming and diving teams sets 13 school records at Liberal arts Championships

For Immediate Release: February 22, 2006 Morris, MN – The University of Minnesota-Morris swimming and diving team traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the 2007 Liberal Arts Championships at Coe College. The three day event was held February 15th-17th.

The Cougars set 13 new school records, established 23 season best times and had several lifetime best times set at just one meet.

As a team Minnesota-Morris had 3 relays in the top 8 for the first time the 200 Medley, 400 Medley and the 800 Free. The 200 Free relay was just out of top 8 at 10th.

Individually, the Cougars had five people with top 8 finishes and 8 people with top 16 finishes.

Head Coach David Molesworth said, “I could not be prouder of a group of eight girls to swim the way they did from session to session and day to day. I think we had by far the most successful year as a swimming and diving program. At the Liberal Arts Championship when the water had settled we moved up another spot into a solid 8th place finish better than last year and only our third season as a team.”

Molesworth added “I was very pleased with the effort the swimmers and diver put forth each and every time they stepped onto the blocks or the board. As a coach when your team performs like this it is so much fun to sit back and watch them compete. When we look at those types of numbers I don't really know what to say but wow!!”
