October 28, 2007 Minneapolis, Minn. – The sophomore duo of Taylor Johnson (Lakeville, Minn.) and Matt Throngard (Grantsburg, Wis.) accounted for five touchdowns as the University of Minnesota, Morris cruised to a 48-20 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College in the annual Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) dome day at the Metrodome Friday, October 26th.

On their very next possession, Johnson would score from 24 yards out as the Cougars needed just two plays to go 31 yards after the Crusaders fumbled the ensuing kickoff. Michael Terrell (Sr. Tracy, Calif.) knocked the ball loose and Corey Hemphill (So. Chicago, Ill.) recovered at the Crusaders 31. That made the score 14-0.

After MBBC made it a 14-7 ballgame, Brady Rose (So. Morgan, Minn.) hauled in a 44 yard touchdown pass from Jeff Karschnik (Sr. Windom, Minn.) as the Cougars would take a 20-7 lead with 11:40 to play n the first half.

Hemphill picked off a pass and took it the Maranatha six and that set up Matt Throngard’s second touchdown of the game, a six yard run to make the score 27-7.

The Crusaders scored later in the second quarter to make it a 27-13 game as the teams headed to the locker room at the half.

UMM scored three more times in the third quarter to take a 48-13.

A 24 yard pass from Jeff Karschnik to Brady Rose with 9:37 to play in the third capped a nine play 65 yard scoring drive to give the Cougars a 34-13 lead.

The Cougars scored twice in the final 3:58 of the quarter, the first on a Taylor Johnson 27 yard run to put Minnesota, Morris on top 41-13 and then with just two ticks on the clock in quarter number three, Johnson hauled in a pass from Matt Fragodt (So. Becker, Minn.) for the final score of the game for the Cougars and that made it a 48-13 game.

Maranatha added a fourth quarter score to make the final 48-20.
