
Cougar baseball team lands four on UMAC all-conference awards list
For Immediate Release: May 14, 2007 Morris, MN – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) has announced the 2007 baseball post-season awards.
The University of Minnesota-Morris had two players earn first-team all-conference honors and tow others were named honorable mention.
Earning first-team all-conference accolades were senior first baseman Joe Fayden and junior Nick Hervin.
Fayden (Great Falls, MT) was third in the UMAC in hitting with a .429 average. He collected 33 hits in 77 at bats with six doubles, two triples, three homeruns and 24 runs batted in. Joe also had a .675 slugging percentage and in the field had 141 putouts with 12 assists and only two errors.
Hervin (Jr. Cold Spring, MN) hit .371 in league games this season with four doubles and 14 RBI. Nick was 1-3 on the mound in UMAC games with a 5.47 earned run average and 17 strikeouts in 26 1/3 inning of work. When he was not pitching, Hervin played shortstop. He had 21 putouts, 46 assists and only four errors with a .944 fielding percentage.
Greg Roth and Matt Throngard earned named honorable mention honors.
Roth (Jr. Cold Spring, MN) had a .391 batting average in 18 games with five doubles and a .609 slugging percentage.
Throngard (Fr. Grantsburg, WI) was 23-for-62 (.377) in UMAC contests. He drove in 14 runs with four doubles, one triple and three homeruns.
