For Immediate Release: January 15th, 2008 – The University of Minnesota, Morris women’s basketball team won their fourth straight and remained unbeaten in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action following a 90-51 win over Martin Luther College at the UMM P.E. Center Saturday, January 12th.
The Cougars jumped out to a 12-0 lead connecting on five of their first seven shots in the game.
Minnesota, Morris took a 40-24 lead into the locker room at the half holding the Knights to just 26 percent shooting from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
After shooting 40 percent (12-30) from the floor in the first half, the Cougars turned it up a notch in the second half connecting on 56 percent of their shots (19-34) and finished the game shooting 48 .4 percent (31-64) from the floor.
UMM scored 25 points off turnovers in the game and had a 32-22 advantage in points in the paint.
The 90 points was a season high for the Cougars. Minnesota, Morris also out rebounded the Knights 54-48. The Cougars also connected on 22 of their 27 attempts from the free-throw line.
Tynell Kocer (Jr. Pierre, S.D.) scored a career high 32 points for UMM on 10-of-14 shooting (71.4 %) from the floor, 4-of-7 three-point shooting and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Arielle Anderson (Sr. Wayzata, Minn.) also had a career high game with 10 points and she added six rebounds.
With the win, Minnesota, Morris (7-5, 3-0 UMAC) remain in a tie for first place with Northwestern College (5-9), also 3-0 in conference play.
The Cougars are on the road this weekend when they travel up north for a match-up with pre-season number one pick Northland College Friday, January 18th at 5:30. UMM will then take on St. Scholastica Saturday, January 19th at 3:00 in Duluth.
