St. Bonifacius, MN—Alaina Benson (Sr. Clinton, MN) scored a career-high 33 points and Arielle Anderson (Sr. Wayzata, MN) had a career-high 12 in leading the University of Minnesota-Morris women’s basketball team to a 81-21 victory over Crown College on Saturday.

Benson’s career point total is now 966, just 34 away from the 1,000-point milestone.

Also scoring in double-digits for the Cougars were Jamie Rainey (Jr. Maple Grove, MN) with 10 and Marissa Maynard (Sr. Blaine, MN) with 10.

Benson added nine rebounds to her impressive offensive totals, followed by Diane Blommel (Fr. Grey Eagle, MN) with seven and Kara Norris (So. Zimmerman, MN) with six.

The Cougars were comfortably out in front during the opening minutes of the first half, but saw their lead shrink to 20-12 with 7:23 remaining. From that point, however, UMM went on a 17-0 run to close out the first-half scoring up 37-12.

Benson (16 points) led the scoring in the first half.

The Cougars only increased their lead in the second half. A layup from Coresa Leighty (Jr. New Ulm, MN) gave Minnesota-Morris its largest lead of the night (81-19) at the end of the contest.

Benson (17 points) again led the Cougar scoring, followed by Rainey and Anderson with six points apiece. Blommel and Norris had five rebounds apiece in the second half.

The Cougars shot 33-65 (50.8%) during the contest.
