Minneapolis, MN—The University of Minnesota-Morris men’s basketball game recorded a big road victory on Monday by defeating North Central University 84-60.
The Cougars were led by a 25-point effort from Will Jenson (Sr. Eau Claire, WI), as well as 18 points from Phil Allen (Jr. Clarissa, MN) and 17 from Eric Dalbey (So. Mora, MN).
Daniel Fragodt (Fr. Benson, MN) pulled down six rebounds during the contest, while both Joey Fragodt (So. Benson, MN) and Jeremy Bosch (So. Salol, MN) had four boards.
The Cougars jumped out to a 17-13 lead early in the first half thanks to 11 points in three minutes from Jenson.
Despite UMM’s lead shrinking to just one point (19-18) with 9:26 remaining in the half, a three-point shot from Ross Johnson (So. Eyota, MN) quickly put them up 22-18.
After the big three-pointer from Johnson, Minnesota-Morris extended its lead to 29-20 following an Allen jump-shot. A free-throw from Allen allowed the Cougars to carry a 42-32 lead into the break.
Jenson (21 points) dominated the scoring in the first half, with Allen also contributing nine points. Jordan Noonan (So. Richfield, MN) nabbed two rebounds.
UMM maintained a double-digit lead in the opening minutes of the second half, with another Johnson three-pointer putting the score at 61-50. After that basket, the Cougars went on a 14-2 run (capped by three points from Bosch) to blow the game open.
Points from Noonan and Bosch closed the scoring at 84-60.
Dalbey (10 points) and Allen (nine) paced the second half scoring, while Bosch grabbed four boards and Daniel Fragodt pulled down three.
The Cougars shot at a 27-55 (49.1%) clip from the floor and outscored North Central 16-10 in points coming off of turnovers.
Now finished with the non-conference portion of their schedule, the Cougars next travel to Martin Luther College on Friday, February 8, at 7:30 p.m. for some UMAC action.
