
Shay, Johnson named UMAC football players of the week
For Immediate Release: October 9, 2007 – St. Paul, MN – Junior linebacker Andrew Shay and sophomore running back Taylor Johnson have been named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) north division defensive and offense players of the week.
Shay (Minneapolis, MN) finished with 13 total tackles in the Cougars 48-18 win over Maranatha Baptist on Saturday, October 6th. Of those 13 tackles, eight were solo. He also and one tackle for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, a pass break-up and at quarterback hurry. He is currently second on the team in tackles with 42, 22 of which are solo and is tied for the team lead in tackles for loss with four.
Johnson (Lakeville, MN) carried the ball 16 times in Saturday’s game for 173 yards and three touchdowns averaging 10.8 yards per carry. The 173 yards rushing is second only to his career best 196 yard, five touchdown effort earlier this year in the Cougars win over Principia College. In five games, he has 606 yards rushing and eight touchdowns, averaging 121.2 yards per game.
