Cougars Magner named UMAC women's soccer coach of the year

Seven Cougars earn all-conference honors

For Immediate Release: November 6, 2007, St. Paul MN – University of Minnesota, Morris Head Women’s Soccer Coach Dan Magner has been selected as the Upper Midwest athletic Conference (UMAC) coach of the year and Cougars had seven members of the 2007 squad earn all-conference honors with six being named first-team.

In just his second season as the head women’s soccer coach at UMM, Magner has led the Cougars to the UMAC post-season tournament championship in each of those seasons, winning the tournament title in 2006, his first seson at the helm and second place this year, losing a heartbreaker to St. Scholastica 2-1 in a shootout.

Under Magner, the Cougars are 31-7-2 (.815%) in those two seasons and 24-4 in UMAC conference action.

Minnesota, Morris had six members of their team selected first team all-conference. They are: Andrea Dexter (Jr. Aurora, Col), Elisabeth Fischbein (Sr. St. Louis, Park, Minn.), Maddy Gerber (So. Mahtomedi, Minn.), Nina Jarnot (So. Sartell, Minn.), Ashley Simpson Broomfield, Col) and Jaima Solie (Sr. Mahtomedi, Minn.).

Andrea Dexter, Nina Jarnot, Maddy Gerber and Ashley Simpson all earned first team honors last year. Simpson was named honorable mention in 2004. For Elisabeth Fischbein and Jaima Solie it was their first postseason award.

Jennifer Baga (Sr. Duluth, Minn.) was named honorable mention all-conference.

Minnesota-Morris and St. Scholastica each placed six members on the first team all-conference list.
