Posted by Brian Curtis on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008
The University of Minnesota, Morris women’s soccer team has been recognized for their academic accomplishments for the 2007 season by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Cougar women’s team has earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the ninth time. To be eligible, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

“These are well earned awards,” stated Cougar Head Coach Dan Magner. “For the women on our team to be competing for and earning national awards is a credit to their work ethic, focus and will to succeed. UMM offers a very challenging educational environment and the fact that the women are earning superior grades makes their success all the more impressive.”

A total of 414 soccer teams (114 men, 300 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 academic year.

Also, three Cougars earned NSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-Region honors for the 2007-2008 academic year. They are Jennifer Baga (Duluth, Minn.), Ashley Simpson (Broomfield, Colo.) and Jaima Solie (Mahtomedi, Minn.)

To earn this award a student must have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher for their entire college academic career, must be a junior or senior in academic standing and start in 50 percent of their team’s games. Student athletes from all NCAA schools (Division I, II & III) compete for this honor.
