Four Cougar women earn All-Conference accolades

For Immediate Release: February 26, 2008 Morris, MN – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) 2007-08 women’s basketball all-conference teams have been announced.

The University of Minnesota, Morris women’s basketball team had two players earn first team all-conference honors and two were named honorable mention.

Earning first team all-conference awards for UMM were Alaina Benson (Sr. Clinton, MN) and Tynell Kocer (Jr. Pierre, SD). It was the second straight year Benson and Kocer were named first team all-conference.

Named honorable mention honors were Marissa Maynard (Sr. Blaine, MN) and Jamie Rainey (Jr. Maple Grove, MN).

Benson and Rainey were also named to the all-defensive team.

Benson was third in the league in scoring in 2007-08 and finishes her career with 1, 063 points, tied for 14th on the Cougar women’s basketball all-time scoring list with Monica Schmitz. She led the team in scoring averaging 15.0 ppg.

Kocer was second on the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and fifth in the league in scoring. Tynell now has 916 points in her career.

Jamie Rainey was number one in the UMAC in assists with 110 and steals with 79. Maynard was third on the team in scoring at 10.7 ppg.

Minnesota, Morris finished the season 15-11 overall and 9-6 (Third) in the UMAC.
