The University of Minnesota, Morris ended a four game losing streak with a 20-0 shut out win over Waldorf College Saturday in Forest City, Iowa in non-conference football action.
The Cougars first score of the game came on a 60 yard fumble return for a score by senior linebacker Andrew Shay (Minneapolis, Minn.) with one second remaining in the opening stanza. It was his third fumble recovery of the year.
In the second quarter, UMM extended their advantage to 14-0 with four seconds to go before the half, on a Seth Hubbard (So. Becker, Minn) one yard scoring strike to the Cougars all-time touchdown reception leader, senior wide receiver Matt Fragodt (Becker, Minn.). Fragodt now has 26 career touchdown receptions.
Hubbard found Fragodt in the back corner of the end zone for the 2-point conversion to make it 14-0.
The third quarter was scoreless and then the Cougars added a final score in the game on a 6 yard run by Ernest Tucker (Jr. Cleveland, OH.).
Minnesota, Morris had 249 yards in total offense, 160 yards on the ground and 89 passing. Waldorf had 170 yards in total offense, all through the air.
Freshman running back Robert Koranda (Fr. Becker, Minn.) finished with 86 yards rushing.
For the season, Koranda now has 1,019 yards rushing, and is the first Cougar running back to go over the 1,000 yard mark in rushing in his first year as a Cougar.
Andrew Shay led the defense with 7 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
Minnesota, Morris 3-5 travels to Appleton, Wisconsin next week to close out the 2008 season against Lawrence University. Kick-off is at 1:00. The Vikings, after a 42-14 loss to Ripon.
