W-Socc: vs. UW Superior (W 1-0)

For Immediate Release: Morris, MN – The University of Minnesota, Morris women’s soccer team won their second straight game on Thursday, September 11 with a thrilling 1-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Superior at the Cougar Soccer Field.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 halftime score. The Cougars had opportunities to break the scoring column in the first half, out shooting the Yellowjackets 12-3, but cold not put on in the net.

The second half started much like the first half with a physical game between the two teams.

UMM out shot UW-Superior 14-6 in the second half and it appeared as if the game would head to overtime.

But shortly after Cougar mid fielder Maddie Haisley (Jr. Albuquerque, N.M. went down with an injury, senior mid fielder Emily Croaston (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season and her first game winning goal of the year taking a beautiful pass from Michelle Hentges (Fr. Andover, Minn.) and drove one past the Superior goal keeper at 65 12 of the second half to put UMM on top 1-0.

The final 20 minutes of the game were very intense, but once again the Cougar defense played extremely well and hung on for the win.

Sophomore goal keeper Emily Jacob (Minneapolis, Minn.) picked p here second win of the season wit hfive saves in the game for the Cougars.

Minnesota, Morris out shot UWS 26-9 in the game, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.

UMM, now 2-3 overall begins conference action at home this weekend when they host Bethany Lutheran on Friday at 4:00 and Martin Luther, Saturday at 2:00 at the Cougar Soccer field.
