For Immediate Release: April 23, 2008 Morris, MN – A pair of standout boys basketball players in Minnesota have announced their intentions to enroll at the University of Minnesota, Morris and play basketball for Cougar head coach Paul Grove.
They are Mitch Primus of Swanville, MN and Clay Fisher of Pine City, MN.
As a 6’10” center, Primus had a stellar high school career at Swanville where he averaged a double-double as a senior with12.8 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game. Primus also averaged a whopping 5.4 blocks per game while shooting 57 percent from the field.
“Mitch will be an outstanding player here at the University of Minnesota, Morris. He will be a force on both ends of the floor and his presence will allow us to do things we haven’t been able to do here in a long time”, said Paul Grove the Cougar Head Coach.
Primus will add much needed size to a roster that only started one player over 6’1” during the 2007-2008 season in which the Cougars finished in a second place tie in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
Fischer, who has been an all-conference player since his sophomore year in high school, scored his 1000th point this past winter. He averaged more than 18 points per game as a senior before being sidelined by a knee injury. Fischer is a talented wing who also has the ability to play the point guard position.
Cougar Head Coach Paul Grove said, “Clay is a tremendous basketball player. I am even more impressed with the leadership he was able to provide for his team. I have no doubt that he will come back even stronger after his surgery and rehab and be ready to play basketball at full speed this fall.”
Fischer will reunite with his former AAU teammate Mitch Primus of Swanville on the basketball team for the Cougars.
