Rosemount, MN—Playing their first of three contests Sunday at the UMAC crossover, the University of Minnesota-Morris softball team was no-hit by Kayla Jenkins of St. Scholastica en route to an 8-0 defeat.

St. Scholastica scored single runs in the first and second innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead, while Jenkins’ brilliant pitching kept the Cougars at bay.

The only UMM base runners during the contest came in the first inning, when Liz Leuty (Fr. St. Cloud, MN) was hit by a pitch and Bailey Jelle (Jr. Lakeville, MN) drew a walk.

St. Scholastica added five insurance runs in the fourth inning—facilitated by a hit batter and a Cougar error—and one more run in the fifth for the 8-0 final score.

Cougar starting pitcher Emile Kalvig (Jr. Blackduck, MN) pitched three and a third innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits and two walks, and was charged with the loss. Ashley Corbett (Jr. Forest Lake, MN) came on in relief to throw the final inning and two thirds, giving up just one hit but walking six batters en route to three earned runs.

The no-hit loss dropped Minnesota-Morris’ record to 5-11 overall and 5-7 in UMAC play.
