
Three Cougars earn UMAC softball all-conference awards
For Immediate Release: May 6, 2008 Morris, MN – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) has announced the 2008 softball all-conference teams.
The University of Minnesota, Morris had three student athletes earn all-conference accolades. Liz Leuty (Fr. St. Cloud, MN) was named first-team all-conference as well as all-defensive team honors. Junior Bailey Jelle (Lakeville, MN) and freshman Diane Blommel (Long Prairie, MN) were selected honorable mention all-conference.
Leuty had a .406 batting average for the year with 28 hits and 10 runs batted in for the Cougars in 22 games.. In 17 UMAC conference games for the year, Leuty was a .48 hitter with 23 hits. Ad the regular center fielder for Minnesota, Morris, Leuty had 29 putouts for the year with four assists and only one error and a .971 fielding percentage.
Bailey Jelle was third on the team in hitting with a .394 average for the year with 26 hits, a team high six doubles and 17 RBI, third on the team. She also had a .453 on base percentage.
The Cougars leading hitter for the year was Diane Blommel who produced a .427 batting average with a team leading 35 hits, four doubles and a team best 20 runs batted in. He on base percentage was .447.
Minnesota, Morris finished the 2008 season 8-18 overall and 7-14 in the UMAC and played 10 of those 26 games in a four day span from April 27-April 30th.
