
St. Scholastica defeated the University of Minnesota, Morris in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) volleyball Thursday 3-0 (25-19. 25-10, 25-14)at the UMM P.E. Center.
The Cougars started strong in the first set and took a 13-9 lead in a strong kill from senior Briana Czer (Nw Ulm, Minn).
The saints then took a time-ot and a short time later had cut the deficit to one at 13-12.
Another kill by Czer and a ace from Colleen Hermes (So.White Bear Lake, Minn). gave UMM a three point lead at 16-13.
CSS then used a 12-3 run to win the first set 25-19.
St. Scholastica opened up a 10 point lead at 13-3 early in set number two and went on to a 25-10 win for a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars gabbed a quick 3-1 lead in the third set, but the Saints tied it at 5-5 a few minutes later.
Minnesota, Morris rallied once again and on a kill from Casey Stott (So. Onamia, Minn) gave UMM a 9-6 lead.
UMM maintained a 1-2 point lead over the next few minutes in the third set and following a CSS net serve lead 12-9.
A 10-1 Saints run gave St. Scholastica a 19-13 lead and they went on to get the three set sweep with a 25-14 win.
Briana Czer led UMM with 13 kills in the match. Sam Pfannenstein (So. Rockville, Minn) had 23 assists.
Minnesota, Morris (4-9, 0-3 UMAC) will play two matches at home tomorrow, Fri October 3rd beginning at 6:00 with a non-conference match with Trinity Bible and following that a UMAC conference contest with Northland College at the P.E Center.
