Despite a furious second half rally and a single game record tying performance by senior Tynell Kocer (Pierre, S.D.), the University of Sioux Falls, escaped Morris Saturday with a two point 84-82 overtime win over UMM in non-conference woman's basketball at the P.E. Center.
The Cougars trailed by eight, 40-32 at the half and outscored the USF Cougars 38-30 in the second half to force an overtime session, but Sioux Falls held of Minnesota, Morris for the win.
Kocer tied a single game record for free-throw percentage in a game at 100 percent (10-10) and finished two points shy of tying her career high of 32. She was 8-21 (38%) from the field and 4 of 11 (36%) behind the arc to go along with her perfect effort at the line.
She now has 974 points in her career, just 26 away from becoming the 17th player in Cougar woman's basketball history to reach the 1,000 point mark in her career.
Kocer would also become the third woman's basketball player in the past four season's to hit that career milestone.
Alaina Benson, accomplished the feat last year and finished with 1,063 points (14th all-time). Malina Berglund in the 2005-06 season, senior year, and is currently tied for eighth all time with 1,184 career points.
Tynell is currently averaging 19 ppg and at that pace, could finish in the top five on the woman's all time scoring list.
