Freshman Zach Meyer (Fr. Cottonwood, Minn.) tallied a career high 22 point in leading the University of Minnesota-Morris men's basketball team to a 12 point, 69-57 win over North Central Friday at the UMM P.E. Center.
North Central scored the games first basket of the game to take a 2-0 lead. It would be their only lead of the game as UMM went on a 15-2 lead over the next six minutes and opened up a 15-4 lead and never looked back.
NCU closed to within three at 24-21.
Minnesota, Morris closed the first half on a 14-4 run to open up a 38-25 at half time.
UMM shot 47 percent (18-38) from the floor in the first half compared to the Rams 32 percent (111-34).
The Cougars maintained the lead through out the second half, with North Central closing to within three on a couple of occasion's.
But again the Cougar defense stepped up and held held the Rams scoreless over a three minute stretch and closed the game on a 14-5 run on the way to the 12 point win.
Daniel Fragodt (Jr. Benson, Minn) and Mitch Primus (Fr. Swanville, Minn.) each had 13 points. Kendall Proell (Jr. Osakis, Minn.)
had a career high 10 assists.
UMM (2-7) is off until Thursday December 31st, when they host Nebraska Wesleyan in a News Eve Day matinee at 3:00 PM at the P.E. Center.
